Meriden Man Sentenced to Five Years in Federal Prison
for Dealing Crack Cocaine

JUL 01 -- Kevin L. Lane, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's New England Field Division and Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MIGUEL ACEVEDO, 25, of Union Street, Meriden, was sentenced today by Senior United States District Judge Peter C. Dorsey in New Haven to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by 10 years of supervised release, for conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”). ACEVEDO pleaded guilty to the charge on January 23, 2007.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, the charge against ACEVEDO stems from intercepted telephone conversations between him and Milton Roman, who was the target of a wiretap investigation between April and June 2006, and had been engaged in dealing crack cocaine. According to statements made in court, during the course of the conspiracy, ACEVEDO aided Roman by running his crack cocaine operation for him between January and April 2006 when Roman was incarcerated in state custody. ACEVEDO had been given Roman’s cellular telephones to run the trafficking operation, and it is estimated that ACEVEDO distributed between 150 and 500 grams of crack cocaine during that time period.

On October 4, 2006, a federal grand jury returned an Indictment charging ACEVEDO, Roman and 33 others.On December 13, 2007, Roman pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and five kilograms or more of powder cocaine. He awaits sentencing and faces a 20-year mandatory minimum term of incarceration. ACEVEDO has been detained in state custody since May 2006. This investigation was a collaborative effort of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Meriden Police Department.
