Local Member of Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Sentenced to 28 Months in Prison for Firearm Possession

DEC 04 -- (BOSTON, MA) - A Lynn man was sentenced today in federal court for possessing a firearm and a silencer after having been previously convicted of a felony offense.

Kevin L. Lane, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division, United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan, and Glenn N. Anderson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives - Boston Field Division and announced today that CHRISTOPHER SWEENEY, age 37, of Lynn, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph L. Tauro to 2 years and 4 months imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release after pleading guilty on September 10, 2008 to possessing a firearm after a prior conviction for a felony offense and possessing an unregistered firearm.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that, on September 20, 2007, as part of a larger investigation of the Boston and Salem chapters of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, federal agents executed a search warrant at SWEENEY’s home in Lynn, Massachusetts. Inside the home and elsewhere on the property, agents found a .32 cal. Beretta handgun, a silencer, a bulletproof vest and various kinds of ammunition.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
