Operation Rock Solid Culminates in the Arrest of 31 Individuals
Drug Dealers and member of the Crips Street Gang Arrested
in a joint operation between DEA’s MET and Oceanside Police Department
FEB 26 -- (Oceanside, CA)- The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Oceanside Police Department (OPD), United States Attorney’s Office and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office today announced the culmination of Operation Rock Solid, an investigation targeting drug dealers and gang members operating in the City of Oceanside.
“The DEA’s Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) program assists local law enforcement entities in attacking drug dealers and drug related crimes that plague our communities. This investigation is a great example of the powerful impact cooperative law enforcement can have on protecting the community’s safety and quality of life”, said Ralph W. Partridge, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA San Diego Field Division.
This investigation was initiated by the OPD in September 2008 following a noticeable increase in violence and street level drug activities in the City of Oceanside. During the course of the six month long investigation, undercover OPD Detectives and DEA Special Agents conducted controlled purchases of narcotics to include crack cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy and marijuana. Many of the undercover purchases were made from individuals who are known affiliates of the Crips street gang.
“The Oceanside Police Department has and will continue its aggressive stance against gangs and drug dealers in our community. This operation is just another example of our commitment to not only utilize our resources, but to bring in other law enforcement resources to have an even greater impact on this activity. The DEA’s Mobile Enforcement Team and our Special Enforcement Detectives worked hand and hand for months during this operation. Our Detectives and the DEA Agents worked very closely with the District Attorney and U.S Attorney’s Offices to ensure criminal filings. We saw a great partnership evolve between all of our agencies and the results are absolutely stunning! Today’s arrests will just add to our declining crime rate and making Oceanside a safer place,” said Oceanside Police Chief Frank McCoy.
This morning eight state search warrants were executed resulting in the arrest of 31 individuals, many of whom have extensive and violent criminal histories. The individuals arrested today were charged with violations of federal and state drug charges including sales of an illegal substance within 1000 feet of a school zone. In addition, law enforcement officials confiscated more than $10,000 in U.S. Currency, one hand gun and two vehicles.
"The DA's Office is proud to continue our cooperation with federal, state and local law enforcement in the war on drugs and gang violence," said San Diego County District Attorney Bonnie M. Dumanis.
Other agencies that assisted in this investigation include the DEA Los Angeles Field Division, Carlsbad Police Department, Escondido Police Department, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, U.S. Marshals Service, San Diego Sheriff’s Department, the Jurisdictions Unified for Drug and Gang Enforcement (JUDGE), and the San Diego County Child Protective Services.
