NYFD Holds Second Annual
“Bring Your Child To Work Day”

APR 26 -- On Thursday, April 26, 2007 millions of New Yorkers brought their child/children to their workplace to participate in the national “Bring Your Child to Work Day”. The annual event is designated for employees’ children who want to learn more about what their parents do at work.

As children in New York went to various businesses, market places and stores, over 70 children of DEA employees were welcomed to the NYFD to see what their parents do on a daily basis. Children had the opportunity to be fingerprinted electronically in order for their parents to leave with a disk that had the children’s fingerprints, photo and pedigree information. Several volunteers spoke to the kids about careers with the DEA, the NYPD, the NYSP, DEA’s Unified Intelligence Division, Diversion Division and Technical Operations.

Highlights included the Hip Hop Magician performing mind boggling magic tricks, visits from Elmo and McGruff the crime dog. As well as viewing a NYPD Emergency Service Unit truck, a highway motorcycle and a canine officer and dog that were parked outside of the building.

Those in attendance were able to eat lunch, tour the building and learn the role their parents play in pursuing DEA’s mission. SAC John Gilbride stated, “ The most important aspect of raising children is to be part of their life. To mentor, to educate, to love. DEA's bring your child to work day was organized in order for our children to share in what we do everyday when we are not with them."
