DEA New York Participates In St. John’s University Justice Appreciation Day

APR 17 -- (Staten Island, NY) On April 16, 2008 employees of the Drug Enforcement Administration New York Field Division participated in St. John’s University Justice Appreciation Day at the Staten Island Campus of St. John’s University.

St. John’s University Criminal Justice Association invited members of the law enforcement community to attend this event in order to educate their campus community about the role of law enforcement and the various missions of each organization. This event allowed students enrolled in St. John’s Criminal Justice and related programs to meet with and learn about the many career tracks available to them.

The Drug Enforcement Administration New York Field Division provided the students an opportunity to learn about the various careers that are offered; Special Agent, Diversion Investigator, Chemist, Intelligence Analyst and Administrative Professionals. At this event members of the DEA Clandestine Laboratory Group spoke with students and professors about the dangers of Clandestine Methamphetamine Labs and how DEA Special Agents train to recognize and dismantle those illegal and dangerous laboratories.

Special Agent in Charge Gilbride stated, “We at the DEA feel that it is imperative to reach out to our community and inform them not only about the dangers of drug abuse, but to increase their awareness about the role the Drug Enforcement Administration has within law enforcement.” Mr. Gilbride commended St. John’s University Criminal Justice Association for hosting this event and providing an opportunity for their students to learn more about the various career opportunities that lay ahead of them.
