The Southern Cone's geographical area includes the countries of Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
Most countries within the Southern Cone Region are considered to be transit zones for the movement of cocaine base, cocaine HCL, and heroin being shipped from Colombia and Peru to markets in the U.S. and Europe, or producers of coca leaves.
DEA offices located in the Southern Cone conduct bilateral investigations; sponsor and conduct counter-narcotics training, to include specific training on clandestine laboratory operations and the diversion of precursor chemicals; participate in intelligence gathering activities; provide assistance in developing drug control laws and regulations; and support DEA domestic offices and other agencies with drug and non-drug investigations through controlled deliveries and evidence sharing.
