LAS VEGAS – Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life style and presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. Red Ribbon Week has grown throughout the U.S. since Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent Enrique S. "Kiki" Camarena was killed by drug traffickers in 1985. Throughout the country wearing red ribbons is a symbol to remember Agent Camarena and to increase awareness towards drug-free lifestyles.

DEA Las Vegas District Office is partnering with Clark County School District (CCSD) to highlight Red Ribbon Week by releasing a 2-hour youth opioid summit video. The video increases awareness about the destructive effects of drug abuse and prescription drug misuse. The youth opioid summit video will be available starting Monday, October 26th and will be available for a month to middle school and high school students within CCSD.  The various video presenters include: professional athletes, an illusionist, and parents or siblings who have lost a family member to a drug overdose. Their drug-free messages encourages everyone to understand the dangers of using illicit drugs and to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The youth opioid summit video can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/470223672/7e85d4a040

This video sends an important message to our youth to encourage and educate them on living a healthy, drug-free life so they don’t become another statistic,” said Assistant Special Agent in Charge Dan Neill. “Red Ribbon Week is an opportunity for communities throughout the nation to come together and take a stand for the future of our children through drug prevention.”
