Steven L. Hofer Named Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator Anne Milgram has announced the appointment of Steven L. Hofer as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the New Orleans Field Division. SAC Hofer brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role, having served in various leadership positions within the DEA and the United States Army.
SAC Hofer began his career with the DEA in 2004 after serving as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army for more than a decade. During his time in the military, he led a company as a commander in Ramadi, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Upon joining the DEA, SAC Hofer held various positions in the St. Louis Division Office and the Violent Traffickers Task Force. In 2016, he was promoted to Group Supervisor of the Springfield, Missouri Office, where he led a task force focused on investigating gang-related violent drug trafficking organizations.
In 2020, SAC Hofer was appointed to DEA Headquarters to assist in nationwide investigative efforts against pharmaceutical opioid manufacturers and distributors. In 2022, he became the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Division, overseeing DEA offices in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Monroe, Louisiana.
SAC Hofer's extensive experience in both domestic and international drug investigations, combined with his proven ability to lead and collaborate with law enforcement partners, make him ideally suited for this critical role.
As the SAC of the New Orleans Division, Hofer will oversee all DEA operations in Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama. He will be responsible for directing and coordinating drug enforcement efforts, working closely with state and local law enforcement agencies, and representing the DEA in the community.
"I am honored to lead the DEA New Orleans Division and to work alongside the dedicated agents and staff who are committed to combatting drug trafficking and protecting our communities," said SAC Hofer. "I look forward to continuing DEA's mission of enforcing the nation's drug laws and making a positive impact on the lives of those affected by drug abuse."
SAC Hofer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Military Science from Missouri Western State University, and a Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri St. Louis. He is married with three sons.
