Dunkirk Man Arrested, Facing Drug and Gun Charges After Police Find Loaded Uzi and Other Guns in his Residence
BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today that Christopher L. Torres, 35, of Dunkirk, NY, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with possessing with intent to distribute cocaine, maintaining a drug-involved premises, and possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes. The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, and a maximum of life in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas T. Cooper, who is handling the case, stated that on May 30, 2021, the DEA and Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence on Eagle Street in Dunkirk. Torres was present during the search. Investigators recovered a loaded UZI pistol, four additional firearms, digital scales with suspected cocaine residue, several small bags of suspected cocaine and marijuana packaged for sale, suspected Gabapentin pills, and other assorted drug paraphernalia.
The arrest is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ray Donovan, New York Field Division; the New York State Police, under the direction of Major James Hall; the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone; and the Dunkirk Police Department, under the direction of Chief David Ortolano.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
