Bakersfield Residents Indicted For Drug Trafficking
FRESNO, CA - United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner and U.S. Drug Enforcement (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Anthony D. Williams announced that a federal grand jury in Fresno returned an indictment today charging Sergio Hector Aguilar, 45, and Oscar Arellano Iniego, 54, both of Bakersfield, of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine, distributing crystal methamphetamine and possessing with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine.
According to the indictment, two undercover purchases of crystal methamphetamine were made from Aguilar and Iniego.
This case is the product of an investigation by the DEA, Bakersfield Police Department, and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen A. Escobar is prosecuting the case.
If convicted, Aguilar faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum term of life in prison, and a $20 million fine. Iniego faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum term of life in prison, and a $10 million fine. Both Aguilar and Iniego are subject to deportation, if convicted. The actual sentences, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.
The charges are only allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
