PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Philadelphia Field Division Special Agent in Charge Jon Wilson announced today that the DEA and Jennifer Lewis-Hall from PHL 17 will be hosting a Youth Drug Summit at Temple University on Nov. 27, 2018, as part of the DEA’s 360 Strategy.

Over 350 students from the Alexander K. McClure Elementary School, the Isaac A. Sheppard School, the Bayard Taylor School, the St. Veronica School, the Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School and student mentors from Temple University will be in attendance at the summit, which is designed to raise awareness and educate elementary school age children about drug awareness in a fun and dynamic environment.

The summit will include a performance by the Temple University Theater Department and group sessions with Hip-Hop Fundamentals, a breakdance education company that combines academic and social content with the world’s most dynamic dance form. Additional breakout sessions will also be held with staff from the DEA and the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America as well as a demonstration by a police canine.

The summit will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in rooms #200 B&C at the Temple University Student Activity Center located at 1755 North 13th Street in Philadelphia.

The 360 Strategy is an innovative three-pronged approach to address the opioid crisis involving DEA’s law enforcement, diversion control, and community outreach efforts. Since the implementation of the program in January 2017, the DEA has partnered with and supported the Gurney Street Project, the Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Kensington Storefront and Porch Light Program, and sponsored youth dance programs at elementary schools around Kensington as well as other events across Philadelphia.

Members of the media wanting additional information are asked to contact DEA Public Information Officer Patrick J. Trainor at (215) 852-8740 or patrick.j.trainor@usdoj.gov.
