Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Robert Murphy graduated from the Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1991. Mr. Murphy is privileged to lead some of America’s most dedicated men and women who disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking organizations.
Mr. Murphy has more than 27 years of law enforcement experience. Prior to becoming a Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent, Mr. Murphy began his career as a Police Officer in May 1991 with the Orlando Police Department (OPD) in Orlando, Florida. During his tenure with OPD, Mr. Murphy spent five years assigned to the Drug Enforcement Division both as a uniformed officer and as a detective. Additionally, Mr. Murphy was a member of the OPD Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT).
In February 1997, Mr. Murphy began his career with DEA. Upon completion of his training in Quantico, Virginia, Mr. Murphy was assigned to the Atlanta Divisional Office. In January 2005, Mr. Murphy was promoted to Group Supervisor of the Atlanta Divisional Office, Enforcement Group One. In January 2006, he was selected to be the supervisor of the newly formed Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Strike Force. In September 2009, Mr. Murphy was transferred to DEA Special Operations Division, Mexico, Central America, and Canada Section located in Chantilly, Virginia. In June of 2012, Mr. Murphy was promoted to the Assistant Special Agent in Charge/Deputy Director at the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Fusion Center located in Merrifield, Virginia. In July 2014, he reported to the Columbia District Office as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the state of South Carolina. In March of 2016, he was promoted to the Associate Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Division. In December 2017, Mr. Murphy was named the Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta Field Division.
