Ten U.S. Congress Members Visit the DEA McAllen Office
MCALLEN, TEXAS - On March 29, 2021, the Houston Division, McAllen District Office hosted ten members of the United States Congress, along with their staffers and an array of media outlets. During the visit, the Congressional Delegation and their staff were provided presentations which offered an extensive overview of DEA operations and the drug trafficking threat along the southwest border
Following the presentation, several members of the delegation asked questions regarding DEA and its mission along the southwest border. Included in this presentation was information pertaining to current “DEA-centric” legislation such as the extension of the Temporary Fentanyl Scheduling Act.
The Congressional Delegation was then provided a tour of the DEA drug vault where the members were able to view over 46,000 pounds of narcotics seized from the McAllen area. During the drug vault visit, several members participated in media interviews highlighting recent DEA seizures throughout the McAllen area.
Next, the Congressional Delegation was provided a presentation by the DEA Houston Division Special Response Team (SRT) in conjunction with the Tactical Helicopter Section (THS). SRT and THS simulated a helicopter initiated vehicle assault which was spectated by all attendees.
Finally, all members were giving an aerial tour of the McAllen border region. The event ended with closing remarks from Houston Special Agent in Charge Daniel C. Comeaux. During the ensuing days of the Congressional delegation, house members conducted multiple media interviews on both national and local broadcasts. During these interviews, the Representatives praised the phenomenal work being conducted by the men and women of the DEA and highlighted multiple recent high-level drug seizures.
“I want to express my sincere appreciation for the effort and investment of time made by all of the Representatives who came down to McAllen earlier this week,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Daniel C. Comeaux, Houston Division. “By getting a first-hand look for themselves and seeking a better understanding of the situation and problems occurring in this Region, these officials have literally put boots on the ground, they now have personal knowledge and insight into what is happening in this critical arena in real time. At the end of the day, this should result in a greater impact on our fight against drug traffickers and their networks.”
