Waterbury Man Who Sold Heroin To Overdose Victim Sentenced To Three Years In Federal Prison
NOV 02 - HARTFORD, Conn. - Michael J. Ferguson Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration New England Division and Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that Reginald Miles, Jr., also known as “Rocky,” 26, of Waterbury, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Alfred V. Covello in Hartford to 36 months imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing heroin to a Woodbridge man who died from an overdose a short time later.
This matter stems from an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users. According to court documents and statements made in court, on November 19, 2015, a 22-year-old male died from an apparent heroin overdose at a residence in Woodbridge. The investigation revealed that shortly before the victim’s overdose, the victim and two other individuals purchased heroin from Miles in Waterbury. According to the State of Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner, the victim’s death was determined to be acute intoxication due to the combined effects of heroin and (a generic form of Xanax). Miles has been detained since his arrest on January 22, 2016. On May 19, he pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of heroin.
This matter has been investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, and the Middlebury, Waterbury and Woodbridge Police Departments. The Task Force includes participants from the New Haven, Hamden, Greenwich, Shelton, Bristol, Vernon, Wilton, Milford, Monroe, Fairfield and Manchester Police Departments, and the Connecticut State Police.
