MADISON, WI. - John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Roman Hernandez-Ortega, 37, Madison, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 14 months in federal prison for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Hernandez-Ortega pleaded guilty to this charge on March 4, 2011. On January 5, 2011, Hernandez-Ortega agreed to supply a police informant with ten ounces of cocaine. Later that day, as the defendant arrived to meet with the police informant, law enforcement agents surrounded the defendant's vehicle and placed him under arrest. A search of the defendant's vehicle uncovered ten ounces of cocaine.

Co-defendant Alfredo Juarez is set for trial before Judge Conley on June 13, 2011. The charges against Hernandez-Ortega were the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Narcotics and Gang Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Reinhard.
