Bradenton Doctor Charged With Illegally Prescribing Pain Medications
TAMPA, FL. -- - Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement (DEA), Miami Field Division and United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announce the unsealing of an indictment charging Aimee Joy Martin, 35, a physician currently practicing in Bradenton, Florida, with seven counts of illegally distributing or causing the distribution of oxycodone and hydrocodone. If convicted on all counts, Martin faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. The indictment also notifies Martin that the United States intends to forfeit her medical license and DEA registration.
According to the indictment, on seven occasions between September 2009 and May 2010, Dr. Martin acted outside the course of her professional practice by illegally prescribing oxycodone and hydrocodone.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the St. Petersburg Police Department.
