Traffic Safety Road Check Led To Arrest Of Local Man And Seizure Of Twelve Pounds Of Marijuana
OTSEGO, N.Y. - - A Milford man was arrested on May 16, 2013 for possessing over twelve pounds of marijuana valued at over $36,000 following a traffic safety road check arrest and the execution of a search warrant at his residence.
On May 16th, Deputies Frank Koren, Jr, Craig Morrison and Stanley Cade were conducting a traffic safety road check on CR-35 in the Town of Milford, NY. Scott Gaynor passed through the road check and was recognized by Deputy Koren, Jr. who asked Gaynor if he had a valid driver’s license. A subsequent NYSDMV computer check revealed that Gaynor’s license was both suspended and revoked for a 2012 DWI conviction and that he was not operating a motor vehicle with an ignition interlock device on it as required by law. Gaynor was arrested for several motor vehicle misdemeanors. During the traffic stop, the deputies noticed a strong smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle which later resulted in over three pounds of marijuana that was found in the cab of the truck. The deputies contacted investigators who were working with special agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement (DEA) New York Division’s Albany District Office on an ongoing heroin distribution case in Otsego County.
The investigators and agents responded to the scene and secured the evidence. Investigators later obtained a search warrant from the Town of Milford Court for Gaynor’s apartment in Portlandville and his storage locker in on SR-162 in the Town of Charleston in Montgomery County. Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators and DEA agents searched Gaynor’s apartment and located an additional nine and a quarter of pounds of packaged marijuana, triple beam balance scale, plastic bags used for packaging, ten hydrocodone tablets and $15,210 in U.S. currency that was seized. Members of the NYSP Capital CNET and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office simultaneously executed a search of Gaynor’s storage locker. No contraband was located at that location. Gaynor was later charged with the marijuana and drug possession by investigators. He was arraigned by Town of Milford Judge Robert E. Moore, Jr and remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail. Gaynor is scheduled to reappear in the Milford Town Court on June 11, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. If convicted Ganyor faces up to five years in prison.
DEA Special Agent in Charge Brian R. Crowell stated, “Proliferating profits from the sale of marijuana throughout the Otsego County area, Scott Gaynor simultaneously played two roles; the main source of supply and the distributor for marijuana. This joint investigation between the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office and DEA should send the message to our community that law enforcement at all levels will not tolerate drug trafficking in our towns.”
