(OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y.) - James J. Hunt, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Division, U.S. Drug Enforcement (DEA) and John M. Muehl District Attorney, announce the arrest of multi-state convicted felon fugitive Paula Jo Rutty, 44, of 140 Baker Road, Worcester, NY.
DEA Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt stated, "As evident in this arrest, DEA is vigilant in following up on tips and intelligence related to any crime. By coordinating efforts with the District Attorney's Office, a fugitive was swiftly located and arrested."
The Albany DEA District Office received information that Ms. Rutty was back in Upstate New York and was possibly wanted in the State of Florida on drug charges. An E-Justice computer check revealed that Rutty was wanted by the Duval County Sheriff’s Office in Jacksonville, Florida on two violations of probation felony warrants: possession of a controlled substance and burglary of a structure - conveyance and fraudulent use of a credit card. The warrants were issued in late February 2016 after her whereabouts were unknown. DEA agents contacted District Attorney Investigators to assist with the investigation.
On June 6, 2015, DA Investigators and DEA Special Agents located Rutty in East Worcester and she was arrested as a fugitive from justice after the Florida authorities were contacted and advised that they would extradite her. She was arraigned by Town of Worcester Judge William J. Fisher and remanded to the Otsego County Jail without bail pending her arraignment in the Otsego County Court.
This morning, Rutty was arraigned as a fugitive from justice by Otsego County Court Judge Brian D. Burns and remanded back to the County Jail without bail. She is scheduled to reappear in the County Court on June 10th at 9:15 a.m. to continue her extradition case.
