Two in Custody and a Weapon Seized
PHOENIX, AZ. - PHOENIX - On September 9, 2011, the Drug Enforcement (DEA), in conjunction with the Homeland Security (HIS) Strike Force Group, arrested two individuals and seized 57.2 pounds of Cocaine. A weapon was also found with the drugs.
The investigation targeted a Mexican drug trafficking organization that smuggled cocaine through Arizona for further distribution to New York and neighboring states. On September 8th, DEA and HIS agents conducted a consensual search of a suspect’s residence in Phoenix where the drugs were recovered along with a firearm. Two individuals were arrested at the scene.
DEA Acting Special Agent in Charge Doug Coleman said, “This seizure is yet another strike against the Mexican drug cartels that have made Phoenix Metropolitan area a primary hub of drug distribution.” These arrests serve notice that DEA and our law enforcement partners will not tolerate the illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and weapons in our communities.”
Complaints were filed in Phoenix federal court charging the defendants with trafficking charges.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety also assisted in the investigation.
