Father and son plead guilty to cocaine possession
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. and DEA New York Division Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan today announced that Carlos Torres Perez, 48, of Rochester, New York, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa to possessing with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin. The charge carries a minimum penalty of 15 years in prison, a maximum of life, and a $2,000,000 fine. In addition, the defendant’s son, Carlos Yamiel Torres, 20, also of Rochester, pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony which carries a maximum penalty of three years and a fine of $250,000.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cassie Kocher, who is handling the case, stated that on Feb. 7, 2018, the defendants picked up approximately two kilograms of heroin from a location in Rochester for the purpose of transporting the heroin to the Albany, New York, area for distribution to another individual for approximately $97,500 in cash. On that date, law enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop of a car traveling eastbound on Interstate 490 in the vicinity of Victor, New York. Carlos Yamiel Torres was the driver and Carlos Torres Perez was in the front passenger seat. During a subsequent search, officers recovered approximately two kilograms of heroin from a bag in the backseat of the car.
The pleas are the result of an investigation by the DEA Rochester Resident Office, and the New York State Police.
Carlos Torres Perez’s sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 10, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Siragusa. Carlos Yamiel Torres is scheduled to be sentenced before Judge Siragusa on Oct. 21, 2019, also at 8:30 a.m.
