Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Steven T. Bell leads the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Omaha Division, overseeing the daily operations of 11 offices throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and eight counties along the western borders of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Mr. Bell began his career in law enforcement with the Metro Nashville Police Department in 1991. While in Tennessee, he worked on patrol, the crime suppression unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and narcotics. In 1998, Mr. Bell joined the City of Aurora, Colorado Police Department, where he served on the patrol division, narcotics unit and Metro Gang Task Force.
A 2004 graduate of the DEA Academy, Mr. Bell was assigned to the Phoenix, Arizona, Division Office as a special agent. Mr. Bell worked numerous complex conspiracies involving the distribution of methamphetamine and learned the intricacies and science behind one of the United States’ most popular recreational drugs. Mr. Bell led extensive wiretap investigations and was requested to assist with the re-development of the Basic Telecommunication Exploitation Program at DEA’s Special Operations Division.
In July 2012, Mr. Bell promoted to Group Supervisor in the Phoenix Division. He was assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Enforcement Group responsible for conducting complex conspiracy investigations while also serving as the methamphetamine clandestine laboratory group supervisor.
In November 2016, Mr. Bell was assigned to the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs at DEA headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. He served as liaison between Congress and DEA’s executive leadership. In December 2017, Mr. Bell was reassigned to the Office of Inspections.
With the creation of the Omaha Division in July 2018, Mr. Bell was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge. He was instrumental in developing the infrastructure for the new Division to include creating an administrative and fiscal unit that serves the entire five state area. Additionally, Mr. Bell provided oversight for enforcement groups in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.
A native of Ohio, Mr. Bell received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati.
